Typo Theory

I’ve been a professional writer my whole career. So, how embarrassing is it to have a careless typo in the very first sentence of last month’s eLetter! Even worse when an astute reader – and friend – called me on it within a few minutes of publication.

I quickly responded to him, sharing this self-serving bit of my philosophy about proofreading and errors.

“I do care about quality and proofread everything personally as well as using a spell checker. But, if I tried to be perfect, it would be an affront to The All Mighty and that would be a bad idea.

Actually, it will be an interesting test of my ‘Typo Theory’: With busy business readers in a hurry, 90% of them won’t notice a minor mistake. And of the 10% who do notice it, 90% of them won’t care that much. So, doing the math, 65 readers should notice the error and 6.5 should give a damn … one down, 5.5 to go.’

Actually, no one else commented about the typo so far, so I conclude that my Theory works. If any of the rest of you noticed it, no one else cared enough to tease me about it. Case closed.

  1. What a relief to uncover someone that truly knows what they are talking about on the net. You actually know how to bring a problem to light and make it important.

    • Wow … really love hearing from happy readers. So glad you like the layout and content of my blog. I’ve been doing a monthly eLetter which includes these blogs for over four years. I had a lot of the content created already for other purposes, so it was an easy transition. Keep reading every month and thanks again.

  2. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one today.

    • Thanks to you as well for your nice comments about the content and layout of my blog. I’ve been writing scripts, training materials and articles for over 35 years, so it’s relatively easy for me. Keep coming back every month.
