Why I Hate ‘Phone Interruptions’

Here’s another signature comment:

Please stop saying ‘that phone interrupted me’. No, that call didn’t interrupt you. You deciding to answer that call interrupted you. Accept responsibility for your actions and stop blaming an inanimate object for your problems.

You could have checked caller-ID to make sure it wasn’t urgent and made a note to handle it during the next low priority task session in your daily plan.

A good exception – if you know who is calling and why and it will take less time to respond than to make a note to deal with it later. Then, answer the call and be done with it.

So, instead of saying ‘that phone call interrupted me,’ try saying My answering that call interrupted me’ or , even better, ‘I chose not to answer it.’
