One simple way to deal with Presentation Anxiety is to Smile Through the Pain. My good friend Jim Smith, the Executive Happiness Coach here in Cleveland knows a lot about how smiles can impact your happiness. And his current blog discusses the Power of Smiles – https://mail.aol.com/webmail-std/en-us/suite.
What he suggests about the impact of smiling on overall mental and physical health also directly applies to workplace presentations. A few of his comments:
- ‘Smiling … releases endorphins that can create a more positive mood.’
- ‘A smile is the universal sign that one is experiencing a good feeling … and tells us much about mood … ‘
- ‘A Leader who … carries genuine smile … is perceived as more trustworthy and approachable.’
So … smile through the pain of your next presentation. And your audience will probably smile back you in appreciation.
