I Don’t Get It – Automated Voice Messaging

How often does this happen to you? When calling a business or colleague, you hear ‘Your call is being forwarded to an automated voice messaging system … 475 338-0298 is not available … ‘

I Don’t Get It! While short and harmless, these recordings can subtly imply characteristics about the business or person:

* They’re too cheap to invest in a better system.

*  They’re too lazy to personalize the default message.

*  They’re too dumb to realized that callers only want to know two facts: did they get the right person/business and when will someone get back to them?

Not a positive or professional image, is it?  And the solution is both simple and easy. All they need to do is take a few minutes to record a short, customized message, like

‘Hi, this is Ben Dover with Glitztronics. Please leave a message and I’ll get back to you by the end of the day.’

Problem solved! Callers know that they got the right place and when to expect a call back. Simple, personalized and helpful. I do get that.
